I am happy and honored to be showing with the Maniac Group again! 2011 was my first time showing with these artists from the US and Europe!
This show includes 8 countries, 28 female artists and 15 male artists. I am proud to be a woman of color hanging alongside a group of talented artists which I respect and admire.
”4 on the Floor” is my first installation piece.
Statement about the work:
I think of my installation piece, “Four On The Floor” as a direct connection between my experience of music and the visual vocabulary of my practice and disciplines in both making art and playing music. “Four on the Floor” relates to a music term where there is a solid rhythmic beat (from a drummer’s perspectve). 4/4 time is found in jazz, disco and techno music. Due to the dark times we are now facing in our world, I think of how people are experiencing life being very fast-paced, searching for coping strategies, endless distractions and groundlessness. This piece brings the viewer to the floor, to sink down, and gestures towards a possibility of adapting, digging in, and finding something restorative to look at from a new perspective.
